Q:
As we know, FLARE mode is for autoland, and RNAV(GNSS) approach with LPV minima can only apply manual landing. So can FLARE mode engage in RNAV(GNSS) approach with LPV minima?
A:
SLS LPV approaches are categorized as APPR 1 which does not include an A/LND, the minimum shall also be inserted in the BARO space of the PERF APP Page (no Radio provided).
During an SLS LPV approach LAND may not engage, however FLARE and ROLLOUT will engage in FMA but at present are of NO USE, the crew MUST DISCONNECT AP FOR LDG or AP will come disengage by itself at 50 FT.
Note: in order to perform an A/LND and use the FLARE/ROLLOUT Modes the FMA shall indicate at least one of the following capabilities:
a. LAND 1
b. LAND 2
c. LAND 3 SINGLE
d. LAND 3 DUAL
Q_2:
SLS LPV has FLARE MODE but cannot apply A/LND. Is it because that A/LND of SLS LPV is already available by aircraft but only not authorized by administration nowadays?
A_2:
Please be informed that, for now, it is not planned to develop or certify the SLS guidance mode for automatic landing on A350 aircraft.
For your information, the ECAM message #SLS AUTOLAND# is introduced as a provision for future evolution. However the SLS guidance mode cannot be used to perform automatic landing for now.
